Bus service from London to Calcutta

How many of us know about a luxury bus service from London to Calcutta by "Albert Tours" which existed till upto 1970s as "The World's Longest Bus Route". This was the route:  UK-Belgium-Germany-Austria-Yugoslavia-Bulgaria-Turkey-Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India. In India, it's stops were: New Delhi, Agra, Allahabad, Varanasi and Calcutta. The single fare between London and Calcutta was 145 Pounds which was pretty expensive given the year the bus service began. Journey time was 49 days from London to Calcutta. Picture :The itinerary of this wonderful bus service. Bus included many luxury services such as: Travel, Food, Accomodation, Sightseeing, Shopping Days, etc. The bus went through more than 150 border crossings without ever being held up for 'serious scrutiny or bribery at the state borders.' and earned the tag of being a 'Friendly Ambassador' to all countries it visited along the way. Here are some more photos.
